If your child starts secondary school in September 2027, apply for a school place by Saturday 31 October.
Register a birth
Book an appointment to register a baby's birth within 42 days.
You must register a birth within 42 days. If the baby was born outside Knowmoor, you can register it here and we'll send the details to the area where the baby was born, but it may take longer to get the certificate.
Who can register
- if the parents are married or in a civil partnership, either parent
- if they're not, the mother, or both parents together if they want both names on the certificate

What to bring
- proof of identity, such as a passport or driving licence
- the baby's red book (personal child health record), if you have it
At the appointment
It takes about 30 minutes. You can bring the baby. You can buy a birth certificate for £12.50.
You can claim Child Benefit after you've registered the birth.
