If you apply late, your child is less likely to get a place at a school you want.
Find schools
Search for schools near your home. Each school's page shows its admission criteria, its catchment area, and how far away the last child offered a place lived in past years.
How places are given
If a school has more applications than places, it gives places in this order:
- children in care or previously in care
- children with a medical or social need to go to that school
- children living in the catchment area with a brother or sister at the school
- other children living in the catchment area
- children outside the catchment area with a brother or sister at the school
- other children, by distance from home to school
Some schools, such as faith schools, have their own criteria. Check each school's page.
Apply
You can list up to 5 schools, in order of preference. Listing more schools does not reduce your chance of getting your first choice.
What happens next
We'll email you on offer day. If you're not offered a school you want, your child will stay on the waiting list for your higher preferences, and you can appeal.
