Become a foster carer

Find out who can foster, the support you'll get and how to apply.

Foster carers look after children who cannot live with their own families, for a few nights or for many years.

Who can foster

You can foster if you're over 21 and have a spare bedroom. You can be single, married or in a relationship, any gender or sexuality, and own or rent your home.

Support and pay

  • a fostering allowance of £350 to £560 a week for each child, depending on their age
  • your own supervising social worker and 24-hour support
  • free training and local foster carer groups
