Adapt your home if you're disabled

Get help to pay for a stairlift, level-access shower or ramp so you can stay in your home.

If you're disabled, or care for a disabled person, we can help you adapt your home so you can live there safely.

Small changes

We can fit small things like grab rails, stair rails and key safes for free. Ask adult social care for an assessment.

Bigger changes: Disabled Facilities Grant

A Disabled Facilities Grant can pay for changes such as:

  • a stairlift or through-floor lift
  • a level-access shower
  • ramps or wider doors
  • a downstairs bathroom or bedroom

You can get up to £30,000. It's means-tested for adults, but not for disabled children. You can apply if you own your home or rent it.

Apply

An occupational therapist will first visit to check what changes you need.

We'll contact you within 4 weeks to arrange a visit. Do not start any work before your grant is approved, or we cannot pay for it.
