Apply for a Blue Badge

Get a Blue Badge to park closer to where you need to go if you're disabled or have a health condition.

A Blue Badge lets you park closer to where you're going. You can use it in any vehicle you're travelling in, as a driver or a passenger.

Who can get one

You'll get a Blue Badge automatically if you:

  • get the higher rate of the mobility part of Disability Living Allowance
  • scored 8 points or more for moving around in the Personal Independence Payment assessment
  • are registered blind
  • get a War Pensioner's Mobility Supplement

You may also get one if you cannot walk far, find journeys very difficult because of a health condition, or have a child under 3 who needs bulky medical equipment.

What it costs

A Blue Badge costs £10. You only pay if your application is approved. It lasts up to 3 years.

What you'll need

  • a recent digital photo of your face
  • proof of identity and address
  • your National Insurance number, if you have one
  • details of your benefits, if you get any

Apply

You apply on GOV.UK and we look at your application.

What happens next

We'll tell you our decision within 12 weeks. If you do not get one automatically, we may ask you to come to a short mobility assessment.

Where you can park with a Blue Badge

In Knowmoor you can park for free in any council car park and in pay and display bays on the street. You can park on single or double yellow lines for up to 3 hours, unless there's a ban on loading.

Renewing or replacing a badge

Renew your badge on GOV.UK up to 12 weeks before it runs out. If yours is lost, stolen or damaged, tell us and we'll send a new one for £10. If it's been stolen, tell the police first.

Report a Blue Badge being misused

It's a criminal offence to use a badge that's not yours, has run out or is a copy. Tell us where and when you saw it being used and the vehicle registration.
