Comment on an application

You can comment on any application, whether you support it or object to it. Open the application and choose "Comment".

The deadline is shown on each application. It's usually 21 days after we've told neighbours. We may still read comments sent later, if we've not made a decision.

What we can take into account

We can only consider planning matters, such as:

  • loss of light or privacy
  • how the building looks and fits in with the area
  • noise, traffic, parking and road safety
  • effects on trees, wildlife, listed buildings or conservation areas

We cannot consider things like the effect on property values, private disputes between neighbours or loss of a view.

What happens next

Your comment will be published on the application, with your address but not your name or email. The planning officer reads every comment. If more than 5 people object, a planning committee of councillors may make the decision, and you can ask to speak at the meeting.

We'll email you when a decision is made.
