Apply for a council or housing association home

Join the housing register to bid for social housing in Knowmoor.

To get a council or housing association home in Knowmoor, you need to join the housing register. Once you're on it, you can bid for homes that become available.

There are far more people on the register than homes to let. Most people wait more than 2 years, and many never get a home this way. We'll also tell you about other ways to find a home.

Who can apply

You can usually apply if you:

  • are 18 or over
  • have lived in Knowmoor for the last 2 years, or work here, or have close family here
  • have a housing need, for example your home is overcrowded, unsafe or not suitable for a disability

You may not be able to join if you have enough income or savings to buy or rent privately, or if you owe rent to a council or housing association.

What you'll need

  • proof of identity for everyone who'll live with you
  • proof of your address for the last 2 years
  • details of your income and savings
  • any medical or support information that affects where you can live
