Help with a deposit and rent in advance

If you're on a low income, we may be able to pay your deposit or first month's rent. You'll need to have found a home and be on the housing register or getting help from our housing team.

Check a home before you rent it

Before you sign a tenancy, check that:

  • your deposit will be protected in a government-approved scheme
  • the landlord has a gas safety certificate and an energy performance certificate
  • the home has a licence, if it's a shared house that needs one

Help to pay your rent

You may be able to get Housing Benefit or the housing part of Universal Credit.
